John's Ice Cream Factory

Only 10 minutes from camp...

510 Belfast-Augusta Road (Route 3)
Liberty, ME 04949
...Just a short ways (easterly) past Bushey Shore

Over 45 Years of Experience and Hundreds of Years of Tradition.

John Ascrizzi comes from a long line of colorful Italian food makers. Before coming to America in the late 1800's, John’s grandfather, Giuseppe, was a baker in Southern Italy. Upon arrival in New York City, Giuseppe and his son Ferdinand opened a pasta manufacturing business in Brooklyn. When John was a boy growing up on Long Island, he worked alongside his father, making ravioli, tortellini, and other specialties. In 1974, his father sold the pasta business and moved to Florida. At age 18, John began working with his sister and brother-in-law in an ice cream franchise in Fort Pierce. He took over the store when the franchise ran out after 15 years. In 1998, he decided to sell the business and come to Maine. In 2017, John decided to incorporate the business. Since that time, he and his partners, Jaimie and Alycia, have continued to produce and serve premium, handmade ice cream to their surrounding communities while keeping the family traditions alive!

Handmade Ice Cream Unique flavors made from true ingredients.

We pride ourselves on making ice cream with low air content, giving it a dense and creamy texture. Our flavors are derived from true ingredients. We make coconut ice cream with real coconut and pistachio without the green coloring, only pistachio nuts. Making small batches from scratch gives us the flexibility to make unique flavors that aren't commercially available. We are often inspired by tastes we encounter every day. Our customers regularly enjoy such flavors as Strawberry Rhubarb, After Dinner Mint, Chocolate Orange Peel, Espresso Anise, and many more!

Camden Hills State Park

Camden Hills State Park signature location is the scenic vista high atop Mt. Battie where sweeping views of Camden, Penobscot Bay, and surrounding islands await. On a clear day, visitors can see Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park. Mt. Megunticook, the highest of the Camden Hills - and highest peak on the mainland - is a moderate climb by foot trail. The park is located a few minutes north of Camden, a quintessential New England town featuring shops that are within walking distance to the working harbor. Harbor cruises, whale and puffin watches are available daily. Summer nights spent under the stars is a recipe for family fun. Campers who stay at the park's campground enjoy the comfort stations that are equipped with hot showers. A popular fall activity for hundreds of visiting leaf peepers is to drive up the Mt. Outdoors, stroll through the country’s only surviving shipyard to see where large wooden sailing vessels were once built. Many of the original buildings in our shipyard are preserved, giving you a glimpse into the daily lives of the Percy & Small shipbuilders. The highlight of the yard is the full-size sculpture of the schooner Wyoming, the largest wooden sailing vessel ever built in North America. At the top of the yard, the Victorian-era home of the Donnells, one of Bath’s many shipbuilding families, opens seasonally for tours. Hop on one of the daily cruises to see some of Maine’s most iconic lighthouses from the water and get an up-close look at Navy vessels under construction at Bath Iron Works. For a truly unique experience, sail aboard the restored 1906 schooner Mary E and learn about her storied history. The museum’s working Boatshop keeps Maine’s wooden boatbuilding traditions alive! Chat with craftsmen at work or participate in the variety of workshops that teach traditional woodworking techniques. Kids love exploring the Pirate Playship, climbing inside the human-sized lobster trap, taking the wheel to captain a tugboat, and launching a wooden ship!
